About Agriculture Department:
Mansehra is an important Agriculture District. The economy of Mansehra District mainly depends on Agriculture sector and approximately 70% of the population is involved in agriculture directly or indirectly.
The District comprises of plain, Valleys and Mountains with two agriculturally important Rivers emanating from the area. It has been bestowed with vast natural resources including fertile land, suitable weather and most importantly sufficient rain fall. Therefore the District is ideal for the cultivation of vide range of cereals, pulses, vegetables, fruit and many cash crops i-e Tobacco and Tea.
Similarly the winter vegetables can be successfully grown in open conditions as off season vegetables in summer in Kaghan, Siran and Konsh valleys of District Mansehra. These vegetables include Potato, Peas, Raddish, Turnip, Cabbage, Spinach and Carrot etc. The farmers of Mansehra District can play the role of early bird that catches the insects if they utilize the resources of the hilly area efficiently and effectively. The offseason vegetable in open condition will up lift the socio economic conditions of the rural area.
The District has special potential for the Maize seed production that requires isolated conditions. Large areas in Kaghan and Konsh valley are available for isolated Maize Seed production in spring. The Kaghan valley of the District has ideal conditions for Potato seed production due to disease free climate of the area and being moon soon free zone. The seed produced in Kaghan valley possesses better quality and hence supplied to different parts of the country.

About Department
The prime mandate of the Agriculture Extension Department is to transfer the recent, tested and most appropriate know how to farming community through different Agriculture Extension approaches that include office visits, Meetings, Trainings, Demonstrations, Field Days and Agriculture Exhibitions, Seminars and Melas and distribution of literature, Brushers, Pamphlets, with a view to increase per acre yield as well as to improve the quality of agriculture produce. The Agriculture Extension Department plays an important role in the uplift of rural farming community by bringing improvement in quality and quantity of agricultural commodities i-e cereals, pulses fruits and vegetables. Agriculture Extension Department is the principal department to implement the Government policy and has a major role in the field of Agriculture.
Functions
• TRANSFER OF THE ADVANCE, TESTED AND MOST APPROPRIATE AGRICULTURE TECHNOLOGIES TO FARMING COMMUNITY.
• PROVIDE ADVISORY SERVICES IN AGRONOMY, HORTICULTURE AND OTHER ALLIED FIELDS.
• PROVIDE PLANT PROTECTION SERVICES TO THE FARMING COMMUNITY
• QUALITY CONTROL OF PESTICIDE AND FERTILIZER
• PROVISION OF QUALITY AGRICULTURE INPUTS AT CONTROL RATE THROUGH NETWORK OF MODEL FARM SERVICES CENTRE

Vision/ Future Plan
Uplifting socio economic condition of the farming community through education, adoption of modern environment friendly agricultural technology and assurance of quality inputs to increase per acre yield for the improvement of food security and livelihood of the community of the district.
Development Projects
Following three Numbers PSDP project are in pipe line for next five year.
· National oilseeds Enhancement programme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
· Productivity Enhancement of Rice in the potential areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
· Wheat Productivity Enhancement Project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Achievements
· Increase in cereal crop yield 5-7% by educating farmers through lunching awareness campaigns on weeds control crop in cereal crops.
· Increase in Fruit production through establishment of quality fruit orchards.
· Assure the provision of Seed and other inputs through Model Farm Services Centre to farmers in both Rabi and Kharif Season.
· Increase the area under vegetable production by discovering new potential areas for offseason vegetable production.
· Empowerment of women farmer through training on Food Processing , Value Addition and Kitchen Gardening.
· Educate and motivate the farmers on Modern Agriculture in cereal crops, Vegetable and Fruits through establishment of Demonstration plots.
